FIORE DI SALE

The linear patterns of Fior di Sale trace the graphic precision found within Sicily’s salt mills, where water, wind, and sunlight conspire to form fragile crystalline formations. Along the edges of the traditional windmills, salt gathers into thin, luminous seams—delicate structures born from evaporation. These lines, etched by elemental forces, reveal a geometry that is both incidental and meticulously shaped in motion. The work observes the windmills’ delicate salt lines, patterns that speak of wind, crystallisation, and the visible traces of process.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Drawn to the purity of salt as an elemental material, this series observes the fine crystalline lines that form along Sicily’s traditional coastal windmills—structures that have withstood centuries of wind, weather, and labor. Photographed in moments where the Fior di Sale gathers into luminous seams, the work allows these delicate formations to speak for themselves: lines shaped in motion, held briefly before shifting again. Against the backdrop of a darkened sky, the white salt traces reveal a geometry that emerges from simplicity—patterns that carry both the clarity of the element and the quiet complexity of its formation.
