BENTLEY 1951 R-TYPE FASTBACK
This 1951 Mulliner-built Bentley Fastback, crafted entirely by hand in aluminium, traces its lineage to Bentley’s first post-war Continental R-Type of 1949. Revered today as one of the marque’s most iconic silhouettes, its sweeping fastback form and sculptural precision embody an era when engineering and coachbuilding met at the highest level.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Photographed on large-format negative film, this series explores the distinctive geometry of the 1951 Fastback. Shot in the rain—a mood that deepened the tones, softened the surfaces, and revealed shifting reflections in the chrome—the setting became integral to the image. The falling water transformed the car’s curves and angles, creating an intimate and quietly romantic dialogue between handcrafted form, weather, and light. The work becomes an honouring of this iconic handmade silhouette, seen through a veil of rain.
